CUMBO TAKE ON NRL LEGENDS
The Cumberland Beavers put on a fine show against a star studded NRL legends side at the recent Kiama 9'S. In the same pool as the Legends formed from past great Illawarra players upsetting the legends would always be a tough task.
Fresh and eager to impress the crowd in the thousands the legends opened the scoring with typical Paul Macgregor class. Not overwhelmed the beavers hit back from a long ball from Kieran Lorraine to Mark Abraham who outpaced Rod Wishart and Brad Mackay to score under the posts. The beavers went to the change just 1 try behind and revelling the chance to match it with the games greats.
The 2nd half saw the legends put on a classy display scoring 3 tries to win 20-6. The game was played in great spirirts with the Nrl legends being great sports and very generous with their time. For the Cumberland boys it was a real thrill to test their skills against the best and will provide many pub stories for a long time to come.
A big thanks must go to Tony Myers and the Kiama RL for organising a great day.
